The Girl Who Owned a City
Lisa

Diary

 Dear Diary,

It's so lonely here now. All the kids are all alone. How will we survive? There are no more adults here. How will I take care of Todd? How will I provide food for him? There are so many questions, yet nobody can answer them. Everyone is starting to steal food from empty houses. Maybe I should do that, too. I have to keep Todd and me alive. We must survive. I hope Mom and Dad are watching us from above.

                                          Your confused friend,
                                                      Lisa Nelson

Dear Diary,

Life has gotten more complicated than ever! Now, not only do I have to take care of Todd, I have to take care of all of Grand Avenue! Tom Logan had offered me a deal, but I turned it down. He said he would protect Grand Avenue; however, in return, we would have to give his gang and him food. I hope I made the right decision. I just want the best for my friends and Todd.

                                                                    Sincerely,
                                                                               Lisa

Dear Diary,

Why me? While Craig and I went to the Secret Place, Tom Logan ambushed Todd at our house, luckily Todd was brave and pulled the rock slide cord. Then, the rocks fell on him and he was unconscious.. His gang cowered away, because they were afraid and Tom wasn't there. Oh, when we got back, you should've seen Todd! He was so proud! I'm proud of him too. But, the next night, when I brought Todd with me to the Secret Place, Tom and his gang came back and burned our house down! I miss it so much. All of my memories of my parents and family are gone. I wish everything were back to normal. On a happier note, the militia has gotten much better. I think that we'll be ready for battle soon. I've been thinking a lot lately, and I think it's time to move to a bigger place for everyone, it'll be sort of like a city. Maybe we should go to Glenbard...

                                                        Yours truly,
                                                                  Lisa

Dear Diary,

Life's been looking up. The whole Grand Avenue moved to Glenbard. We've been working really hard to make it. Jill is our nurse; in addition, she's been reading a lot of first aid books. I'm really really glad she's here. A lot of families around have been coming, asking us if they can live in Glenbard, too. We ask them a few questions and then decide if we should allow them. I think we've really made a lot of progress. I just hope that Tom doesn't come and do something.

                                                  Love,
                                                      Lisa

Lisa Nelson is the main character in this story. Without her, there would be no story at all. She was the courageous girl who made everyone realize that you can't just sit there and make people do the work and then steal, but you have to work for what you want by yourself. Then, you'll feel accomplished something and like you conquered the world. She thought of going to the warehouse, farms, and Glenbard; moreover, she was the one that thought of creating the militia. She was a bossy-but-in-a-good-way type of person. She knew how to use her brain and did everything to make herself proud and to keep the kids alive. If Lisa did not exsist in this story, there would be no Glenbard, nobody to fight Tom, nobody to think of the great ideas, and etc. She had many conflicts, between herself, Tom, Craig, and fate. The kids of Grand Avenue would be lost and probably would've died. She was the most important character in this story and she was the heart of Glenbard.
